Brasília – Yesterday, the second trial in the Dorothy Stang murder case came to an end (in the first trial the two gunmen who killed the American missionary were sentenced to 27 and 18 years).

In yesterday's trial, farmer/landowner, Amair Feijoli da Cunha, who goes by the nickname "Tato," was sentenced to 18 years in prison for intermediating the assassination of Stang. He had confessed to paying the gunmen, Rayfran das Neves and Clodoaldo Batista, R$50,000 (US$25,000) on orders from farmers/landowners, Regivaldo Galvão, aka "Taradão," and Vitalmiro Bastos de Moura, aka "Bida."

According to Tato, Taradão and Bida wanted Stang killed because she had denounced them for illegal deforestation.

Taradão and Bida have still not been tried.
