Brasília, June 5, 2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The São Paulo Stock Exchange (Bovespa) turned over a financial volume of R$ 17.09 billion in May, 4.6% more than the $16.34 billion negotiated in April.
The average of daily transactions, 40,439, amounted to $ 813.80 million in May, compared with April's daily average of 38,783 transactions and $ 817.49 million. Of the total of business transactions during the month, 16.36% were closed on the floor and 83.64% through electronic means - including transactions closed on the Mega Exchange and the Bovespa Fix.
The Ibovespa index, composed of the 54 companies whose shares are traded in the greatest volume, rose 6.8% over the period, ending the month at 13,421.60 points. The IBX-50, made up of the 50 companies whose shares are the most widely traded on the Bovespa, weighted by the companies' market value, rose 5.4%, ending at 1,724.23 points. (DAS)
