Brasília - In the next few days, Brazil's humanitarian aid to the countries victimized by the tidal waves that struck Asia on December 26, 2004, should reach the mark of 250 tons. New shipments will embark for the region this week. According to the advisory office of the Presidential Cabinet of Institutional Security, Indonesia is the destination of two containers carrying 12 tons of canned processed meat, donated by the Brazilian Association of Meat Export Industries (Abiec) and around 20 tons of sundry donations received in São Paulo by the Indonesian Consulate.

Four other containers, donated by the Vale do Rio Doce Company, will transport 42 tons of powdered milk and 24 tons of wheat flour. These items were contributed by the National Supply Company (Conab) and are headed for Sri Lanka.

Three more containers with around 60 tons of material donated by the Brazilian people will depart for Sri Lanka on February 7.
