Representatives from all continents meet at FAO in Rome

Brasília - The 33rd Conference of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), which is being attended by representantives from countries on all continents, proceeds today (21) in Rome. Brazil is being represented in the debates by the director of the Department of Animal and Plant Health Affairs of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply, Odilson Ribeiro.

Since Saturday (19), when the meeting got underway, technical specialists and government officials have been discussing a new structure for the FAO, the opening of sub-regional offices in various parts of the world, and the creation of directorates to deal with questions related to animal and plant health in a harmonious fashion. During the talks the Brazilian representative is expected to call for the compilation of technical data to serve as parameters for the definition of maximal limits of pesticide residues allowable in food products.
