Brasília, September 25, 2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The government set up an interministerial work group to study proposals for the installation of a digital TV system in Brazil. In 30 days the group will have to present the President with a report containing guidelines. The group is composed of the Ministers of Communications; Culture; Development, Industry, and Foreign Trade; Education; Finance; Foreign Relations; the Presidential Civil Advisory Staff; and the Government's Secretariat of Communications.

The idea of developing a project with Brazilian technology for digital TV is already being examined by the government. The models developed in the United States, Japan, and the European Union are also being analyzed. The Ministry of Communications made room for public and private sector institutions to be able to offer their opinions on this question. Suggestions and criticisms should be sent to the site "tvdigital@mc.gov.br". (DAS)
