São Paulo, September 25, 2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - For the third year in a row, Embraer won a place on the select list of firms composing the American Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI World). The company was one of the 317 chosen as the best performers in the social, environmental, and economic field, among the 2,500 largest companies that make up the Dow Jones Global Index. The Brazilian aircraft manufacturer is the fourth Brazilian company to join the select group, and it occupies second place in the aerospace segment, which has four representatives among the winners.
Through a note issued to the press on Wednesday (24), Embraer's corporate executive vice-president in charge of Investor Relations, Antônio Luiz Pizarro Manso, said that being a member of this index "means that the company's policy of corporate sustainability has been recognized and is capable of generating value for shareholders over the medium and long-term, since the company has already demonstrated its capacity to manage risks linked to social and environmental factors, besides the economic ones."
Created in 1999, the index is made up of companies from 60 industrial segments and 22 countries. Their total market value surpasses US$ 5 trillion. As a measure to evaluate the quality of company management, in addition to financial results and social activities, the DJSI is considered an important indicator for institutions that manage financial resources.
