Brasília – The Mercosur (Southern Cone Common Market) will be discussed on a series of seminars, in several cities of the North, Northeast, and Middle-West regions of Brazil.

The first one, entitled "Meeting the Mercosur," will be in Recife, capital of Pernambuco, in the Northeast of the country. Others will happen in Bahia, Pará, and Mato Grosso do Sul.

The seminar is an initiative of the Brazilian Economic and Social Consulting Forum, which represents Brazilian civil society in the Mercosur. Seminar’s objective is to discuss the consequences for Brazilian citizens of the integration process of Mercosur countries.

According to Jorge Romano, responsible for the organization of the event, seminars aim at giving more visibility to the Mercosur, especially at the most distant regions of the Member States, as well as to expose the bloc’s intention in a simple manner.

"The event is part of a greater effort of our government to involve these cities in the main themes of external politics. We want to discuss the future of the Mercosur, audacious proposals, the Mercosur Parliament, and the relation with other projects of the South American Community of Nations," Romano says.

The Mercosur is better known in the South region of Brazil, because it borders the other Member States of the economic bloc – Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
