Recife - Yesterday, during a stopover on his way to the UN meeting in New York on hunger and poverty, president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva visited the Imbiribeira station of the Recife subway system which is under construction. When the station is completed, it will extend to the center of the city and some 15,000 people will use it daily. It is scheduled to be inaugurated before the end of this year by minister of Cities, Olivio Dutra.
The Recife subway system will receive R$46 million this year. Another R$135 million will be needed to complete the Southern line, which will be used by a total of 400,000 people daily when it is completed by 2006.
