Brasília, 3/17/2004 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva sent a congratulatory message to the prime minister elect of Spain, José Luís Zapatero, for his victory in last Sunday's general elections. He also expressed condolences for the deaths in the March 11 terrorist attacks and repudiated terrorism. "I am convinced that Spain, under your leadership, will overcome this bitter moment and advance on the path to peace and development," said the note, adding: "I am also certain that the strategic ties between Brazil and Spain will be broader and deeper during your government."
Lula also sent a message to outgoing prime minister, José Aznar, thanking him for his "correct and friendly" dealings with Brazil over the last few years. (AB)
