Brasília, July 17, 2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The Congressional reporter in charge of tax reform, Deputy Virgílio Guimarães (PT-MG), was invited to participate in a meeting, Tuesday (15), at the residence of the president of the House, João Paulo Cunha (PT-SP), where leaders of the parties that form the Administration's basis of support discussed Social Security reform. Guimarães denied that he was negotiating changes in the tax reform as a result of changes in the Social Security reform proposal. The Deputy affirmed that "no tit for tat is involved," when asked whether the Administration would be willing to yield in tax reform in order to receive the governors' support on the issue of Social Security. Nevertheless, the reporter said that he is favorable to the idea of transferring part of the revenues collected through the CIDE (fuel tax) and the CPMF (check tax) to the states. (DAS)
