Brasília, 1 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The coordinator of the Task Force to Combat Organized Crime in Rio de Janreiro, Getúlio Bezerra dos Santos, said on Friday that there will not be any federal intervention in work done by state public security officials. According to Bezerra, the Task Force will coordinate intelligence gathering for dealing with the state's main problems: drugs, illegal arms and money laundering.

Bezzera says that president Cardoso has guaranteed funding for 10 measures to fight violence in the state. He also announced that the task force will not restrict its actions to Rio, but will fight drugs in neighboring countries and marijuana production centers in Northeastern Brazil. (AB)
