This initiative is part of an international cooperation accord firmed between UFPE and the two Spanish institutions of higher learning, which allows students to spend from 6 months to 1 year in one of these universities. Among the courses offered are bachelor programs in Physics, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Law, Pedagogy, Medicine and Business Administration.
According to the dean of Academic Matters, Roberto Coutinho, the agreement benefits especially the students who passed the entrance exam, but who didn't get a high enough average to guarantee them a vacancy in UFPE.
