Indian educators taking qualification course in Mato Grosso do Sul

Campo Grande, 25 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Eighty directors of indigenous education are participating of qualification courses this week in Campo Grande, capital of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. This is the second phase of the program called 'Indigenous School Education Training' for government technicians, sponsored by the State Education Secretariat in a partnership with the Ministry of Education.
The purpose is to develop of series of competencies and capabilities for the consolidation of intercultural education in schools located in Indian communities of Mato Grosso do Sul. The central western state has the 2nd largest indigenous population of Brazil, with nearly 40,000 Indians. The course addresses topics such as Indians and the law; the concept of self-determination and autonomy; the statute of indigenous societies; indigenous schools within the educational system; the indigenous scholastic community; class curriculums; publications of Indian authorship.
