Recife, October 14, 2002 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - This Saturday, Unicef and the NGO, Auçuba of Pernambuco, launched a campaign, Live Legally, to get people to register the births of children. A Unicef survey found that out of every three children born in Brazil, one of them does not have a birth certificate. That works out to about 1 million children without one each year, says the Ministry of Health. The campaign will target parents in the Recife metropolitan region, distributing 100,000 explanatory pamphlets, explaining that a birth certificate is a basic document of citizenship. Besides, it does not cost anything. (AB)
