Brasília, 4/6/2004 (Agência Brasil ) - The National Nuclear Energy Commission (CNEN) reports that on March 19 there was a leak at the Nuclear Fuel Factory, one of the installations at the Nuclear Industries of Brazil (INB) plant in Resende, state of Rio de Janeiro. A small quantity of uranium oxide escaped but did not contaminate the environment or harm any of the four employees at the site of the accident.

The president of the CNEN, Odair Gançalves, says the causes of the accident are not clear but that the CNEN will require the INB to make a complete report on the incident and beef up its safety arrangements in the plant. (Translator: Allen Bennett)
