São Paulo subway workers decide not to go on strike tomorrow

São Paulo, January 21, 2004 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - In a conciliatory hearing yesterday (20) at the Regional Labor Court of the Second Region, São Paulo Subway management representatives agreed to suspend official confirmation of job dismissals, until their next meeting with the labor union, set for January 27. In return, they demanded that subway workers not go on strike Wednesday (21). The union accepted the proposal, but they remain in a state of strike alert. The category wants an end to firings, the announcement of a public exam to fill new positions, and a retirement plan for the category. (DAS)
