Recife, June 16, 2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The Brazilian government is amplifying the process of supervision of the pharmaceutical industry, in order to increase the security and quality of the remedies consumed by the population.
This information was announced on Saturday (14) by the Minister of Health, Humberto Costa, who added that the measure was taken in order to avoid the repetition of cases like that of the Enila Laboratory, in Rio de Janeiro. Enila, manufacturer of Celobar, a solution used to provide contrast in X-ray exams, modified the formula of the product without legal authorization, to reduce production costs, and used rat poison, which resulted in the intoxication and death of several patients.
