Porto Alegre, 1/23/2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Brazilian theologian, Leonardo Boff, says that there is a good chance that the recommendations of the "Carta da Terra" (Earth Charter), will be adopted during the Lula government with Marina Silva as minister of Environment.
The Carta da Terra was drawn up by 100,000 people from 46 countries. It was discussed yesterday at the World Social Forum in Porto Alegre.
According to Boff, minister Marina Silva is a person who puts people at the center of her actions, not economic interests. "She is someone who does not see water as a hydrological resource, but rather as a something fundamentally necessary for people and their quality of life," he explained. (AB)
