Brasília, December 18, 2002 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Yesterday (17), by a vote of 21 to 5, the Senate Economic Affairs Committee approved the name of Henrique Meirelles for the presidency of the Central Bank. Meirelles's name will be submitted to the Senate floor for a vote today. He was indicated by the president-elect, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, to take over the Central Bank next year. (DAS)
