Brasília, 16 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The Brazilian government is keeping a close watch on the political situation in Paraguay and former general Lino César Oviedo who is in Brazil. There is some concern due to the State of Emergency decreed by president Luis Macchi, after violent demonstrations against his government.

General Oviedo, who is wanted in Paraguay [and is considered by many to be the power behind the opposition to the Macchi administration], lives freely in Brazil thanks to a safe-conduct granted by a Brazilian superior court. According to the Ministry of Justice, he can only be arrested if he commits some other crime in Brazil. (AB)
