Cardoso inaugurates Nova Piratininga thermoelectric power plant

Brasília, 4 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Today Petrobras, the Metropolitan Water and Energy Company (Emae) and the Petrobras Social Security Foundation (Petros) inaugurated the first modernization phase of the Nova Piratininga thermoelectric power plant in São Paulo, with the participation of president Fernando Henrique Cardoso, governor Geraldo Alckmin and the minister of Mines and Energy, Francisco Gomide. With the modernization, at a total cost of US$300 million, will generate 200 MW by 2003. After modernization is completed, energy production will rise to 580MW. (AB)
