Brasilia, 27 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Though the net debt of the Brazilian consolidated public sector increased 33.2% at the end of 2001, National Treasury Secretary Fabio Barbosa guaranteed Tuesday - in a hearing before Congress' Joint Budget Committee - that the federal government has no intention of leaving the non-programmed expenditures on the budget, the so-called "skeletons", for the next administration. In 2001, the Program to Strengthen Federal Banks forced the government to spend R$ 12.6 billion (around US$ 5.32 billion) to help banks clean house, elevating the "skeletons" to up to R$ 32.5 billion (approx. US$ 13.6 billion). (MW)
