Government has primary surplus of R$5.455 billion

Brasília, 25 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - According to the Central Bank, the government had a primary surplus of R$ 5.455 billion (US$ 2.25 billion), or 5.3% of GDP in January (the primary account does not consider interest payments). In January 2001, there was a primary surplus of R$ 5.628 billion (US$ 2.32 billion). There is now a cumulative primary surplus of R$ 43.482 billion (US$ 17.9 billion) or 3.69% of GDP for the last 12 months. (AB)
