Brasília, 26 (Agência Brasil – ABr) – The direcor-president of the Brazilian Farm Research Corporation (Embrapa) Alberto Portugal, says that the first results of studies of the coffee genome will bring benefits to coffee-growers within a year, at the most. "First, the results will improve quality and make our plantations more productive, without using insecticides or agrotoxics," said Portugal, referring to research led by Embrapa in a partnership with Brazilian universities, farm cooperatives and some 30 companies.
Besides coffee, Embrapa is working on genetic mapping of bananas, cacau and the eucaliptus. (AB)
