Stockholm, 22 (Agência Brasil -ABr) - Referring to the decision by the government of Columbia to go on the offense against the Farc, president Fernando Henrique Cardoso declared that there was no other choice, but that he does not believe there is any risk for Brazil in that decision. "The battlefield is far from the Brazilian border. That border is thick jungle and there has never been any penetration into Brazilian territory. Brazil can defend itself although I hope the situation does not reach that point," said Cardoso, adding that kidnappings and other direct challenges to government authority are unacceptable. "Or the government exercises its authority or it will not exercise anything," concluded the Brazilian president. (AB)
