Rio de Janeiro – The Getulio Vargas Foundation (“FGV”) weekly inflation report on prices and cost of living in seven large cities (“sete capitais pesquisadas”), called the Weekly Consumer Price Index (“IPC-S”), for the period 7 to 15 of May, found that prices had risen in five of the cities surveyed.


According to FGV, prices rose less (up 1.08%), as measured by the IPC-S, compared to the prior week (up 1.18%), in Rio de Janeiro, and in Brasilia where prices rose 0.47% during the week of May 7 to 15, compared to 0.50% in the prior week.


However, the IPC-S found that in its week-to-week comparison, prices rose more between May 7 and 15 than in the prior week in Salvador, up from 0.97% to 1.20%; in Belo Horizonte, up from 1.32% to 1.53%; in Recife, up from 1% to 1.12%; in São Paulo, up from 0.97% to 1.01%; and in Porto Alegre, up from 0.85% to 0.89%.


According to the FGV, the biggest price increase was in the food group, where prices rose 1.52% during the week of May 7 to 15, compared to 1.26% in the week before.
