Brasília – The United Nations (UN) Secretary General, Kofi Annan, praised the Brazilian National Aids Program, at the opening ceremony of UN’s General Assembly, last Thursday (2), in New York, United States. Kofi Annan affirmed that the program, which has provided treatment for Aids patients through antiretroviral medications, contributed to drastically reducing the epidemic’s evolution.
Ministers of Health of over one hundred countries participated on the meeting, with the objective of discussing advancements obtained in the process of combating the disease since the signature of the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS, in 2001.
Brazil’s Minister of Health, Humberto Costa, emphasized to the assembly’s participants the importance of offering free treatment to all patients, as well as to establish strong prevention and sexual education activities.
