São Paulo, 12/9/2002 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - On Saturday deputy José Dirceu announced that he was resigning as president of the PT because he would become a member of president-elect Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's government, and that Jose Genoino would take his place as head of the Workers Party.

Genoino declared that, "It is an honor to preside over the party at the moment that Lula becomes president." He called on members of the party to "think grandly."

As for the names of people in the Lula administration, Dirceu declared that as previously reported the complete cabinet (ministry) will be announced together. That, he said, included the name of the new president of the Central Bank. (AB)
