Brasília, December 3, 2002 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - In a speech delivered at La Moneda Palace, seat of the Chilean government, president-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said that his administration is aware of the advantages and risks that globalization represents. To deal with globalization correctly, he considers it fundamental for the country to have a clear notion of national interests. "It is equally necessary to propose a policy of regionalization that allows the country to relate to common issues, so as to assure a better insertion in the world," Lula declared. He pointed out that one of the instruments is the Mercosur. According to Lula, it is essential to call upon the countries of the region to cooperate more closely. (DAS)
