Brasília – The leader of the PSDB in the Senate, senator Arthur Virgílio Neto (AM), following the announcement yesterday (March 27) of the resignation of Antonio Palocci as minister of Finance, declared that the government must signal "strongly and clearly" that its fundamental economic policies will be maintained. Virgilio said he was speaking of inflation targets, a free-floating exchange rate and rigid primary surplus goals so debt interest payments could be made.

Virgilio said he expected some "turbulence" on financial markets today, which was why it was so important for the government to clarify its position with regard to future economic policies.
