Brasília, 3/3/2004 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The head of the consumer rights agency (secretário de Direito Econômico do Ministério da Justiça), Daniel Goldberg, testifying at the Chamber of Deputies, declared that Parmalat Brasil can be saved if creditors and investors join forces. He cited the example of the Jari Project, which was successfully rescued with BNDES loans after going bankrupt.
At the moment, Parmalat Brasil has 6,200 employees and around 25% of the company is in activity. Last month the company had revenue of R$30 million, compared to R$130 million before the crisis. (AB)
