Brasília - The Brazilian Supreme Court (Supremo Tribunal Federal) has ruled that the ceiling for civil service salaries in Brazil will be R$19,115.19. That is the Chief Justice's salary. Other members of the court receive R$17,343.71.
With the ruling, a total of 26 judiciary branch retirees and pensioners will have salary reductions. According to the Chief Justice, Mauricio Correa, a survey will be made of other branches of government to see if anyone else gets more than the ceiling. If that is the case, their salary, pension or retirement pay will be reduced. (AB)
