Brasília, - Within the next ten days the Temporary Measure (medida provisória) (MP) for the electricity sector should be ready, says deputy Fernando Ferro (PT-PE), who is preparing the text. He explains that because of procedural rules it has to be voted on before work can move ahead on other bills during the extraordinary session of congress.
Ferro reports that there are 766 proposed amendments to the measure, but only thirty of them are "critical" and will have to be voted on in the Chamber of Deputies. He adds that many of the amendments exist just to slow down a vote on the measure. He says the problem is that the electricity sector must have appropriate legislation and the MP is that legislation.
