Brasília, June 4, 2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - In a country like Brazil, with continental dimensions, long-distance instruction is the best way to train primary and secondary public school teachers. This was the position defended yesterday (3) by the Unesco Deputy Director-General of Education, John Daniel, following his first visit to the Minister of Education, Cristovam Buarque.

"The preparation of teachers is indispensable for the improvement of educational quality in public school systems, and I agree with the Minister when he says that the challenge to Brazil is not only to increase the supply, but also to maintain children in schools, and that they be of quality," the Unesco director added.
