Director of IMPA calls for creation of council to stimulate Science and Technology

Brasília, April 17, 2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The project to create the Inter Academy Council (IAC), which has the backing of the World Bank, will be presented today by the director of the National Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA), Jacob Palis, at the Ministry of Science and Technology's Cycle of Conferences.

The purpose of the IAC is to serve as an instrument to diminish the distance between the scientific and technological production of the developed and the developing countries. The IAC project is expected to be discussed at the United Nations in July and should begin to be disseminated in the second semester. (DAS)
