Brasília, 3/7/2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Minister of Communications, Miro Teixeira, and the ambassador of the People's Republic of China, Jiang Yuand, met yesterday to discuss the possibility of both countries joining together to create a new digital technology for television. Teixeira explained that Brazil wants a system that will attend to the peculiarities of the country and meet domestic standards.

Spokesmen for the ministry report that nothing was formally agreed on, but that the talks will continue. "We want to adopt a system to Brazil. This involves various sectors within the framework of government policy," said Teixeira, adding that besides the possibility of a partnership with China or India, there is the chance of working with existing American, Japanese or European systems.
