Rio, 2/17/2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Minister of Science and Technology, Roberto Amaral, reports that the government will give scholarships to high school students as part of its effort to improve the distribution of resources in the area of science and technology. With scholarships, students will have more time to study and prepare for university, he explained.
"We cannot think only of the universities. We have to improve high school education or we will not have good students studying science and technololg in universities," he said.
Amaral also pointed out that 80% of sector investments came from the government, while 70% of university students were in private schools. They have to make investments also, he said. (AB)
