Brasília, 1/29/2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Minister of Education, Cristovam Buarque, and the governor of Rio, Rosinha Matheus, have signed a protocol of intentions to implant a pilot project to eliminate illiteracy (Alfabetização Bolsa ABCtec), which has a R$10 million budget, to be paid in equal parts by the Ministry and the state. The project seeks to not only eliminate illiteracy, but place beneficiaries in jobs. A first phase of the project will give classes to 21,000 youths and adults. (AB)
