Brasília, 12/5/2002 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - In its last meeting under minister of Agrarian Development, José Abrão, the National Council for Sustainable Rural Development (CNDRS) approved the basic text of the Sustainable Rural Development Plan (Plano Nacional de Desenvolvimento Rural Sustentável), which establishes land ownership access rules, mechanisms to assist family farming and suggestions for improving the expenditures of public funds in the sector.

Abrão pointed out that the plan is the first of its kind and will be delivered to the transition team for execution during the next administration. The plan is to be the subject of a conference next year. (AB)
