IBGE: employment is up in industrial sector for third straight month

Rio, 19 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Employment in the Brazilian industrial sector has risen for the third consecutive month, rising 0.4% in May, compared to April. There were more jobs in 11 out of 14 economic segments surveyed by the Braziliian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE)'s monthly employment and salary report. There is now a cumulative increase of 1.3% in jobs between February and May. However, compared to May 2001, employment is actually down 1.6%, and down 1.7% for the first five months of 2002. (AB)
