Rio, 10 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - One of Brazil's best known political scientists, Hélio Jaguaribe, poured praise on the Cardoso administration yesterday during a speech at a seminar, Brazil 2003-2006, at the Rio de Janeiro Commercial Association in commemoration of the 8th anniversary of the Real Plan. However, Jaguaribe also criticized the government for what he called "an excessive insistence on maintaining an overvalued dollar through its exchange rate policy." Jaguaribe called that an error that was blocking economic growth. He also criticized dependence on foreign capital, high interest rates and high levels of poverty. (AB)
