Brazilian national soccer team arrives in Brasilia

Brasília, 2 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The Brazilian national soccer team has landed in Brasilia (10:00 am local time), after overflying the city escorted by Air Force fighter jets. Thousands of fans are out on the streets, waving Brazilian flags, waiting to get a look at the new national heroes. It is estimated that there are 20,000 people waiting for them in front of the Palacio do Planalto where they will meet president Fernando Henrique Cardoso.The Congress building has been decorated with yellow and green in homenage to Brazil's fifth conquest of the World Soccer Cup.

The team will fly on to Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo later today for more celebrations. (AB)
