Florianópolis, 1 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Minister of Justice, Aloysio Nunes Ferreira, speaking in Florianópolis (Santa Catarina), at the 7th National Conference of Secretaries of Justice and Human Rights, declared that "it is not possible to have liberty without security." According to Ferreira, a democratic nation needs modern legislation, besides police repression, to effectively face the problem of criminal violence.The minister also underscored the need to fight conservatism in the judicial branch and make non-custodial sentencing a reality.
