Brasília, 4 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - British student James Jackson, 14, from St Mary's College, Hull, will soon be flying to Brazil for a one-week educational trip. This is his award as the winner of the "2002 Annual Quiz Competition", an online questions and answers game designed to stimulate the study of Brazil on the Internet through the "Brazil in the School" section of the website of the Brazilian Embassy in London, which was re-launched last year.
According to the Brazilian Embassy in London, the Quiz was open to all UK students under 18. Throughout the year, all those who successfully answered the questions of the Quiz were automatically entered in the monthly draws with prizes from Brazil and the yearly draw, which took place at the end of January. In 10 months, hundreds of entries were taken, and those which complied with the rules were entered in the competition.
The Quiz is an important extension of the Brazilian Embassy's educational programme making use of information technology. The "Brazil in the School" section now receives around 1800 visitors a month during term time and 700 visitors in the holiday months. The section is visited by students from all continents. More details can found at www.brazil.org.uk.
The student's trip will consist of a visit to the States of Bahia and São Paulo. In Bahia, James, accompanied by his father, will visit the ecological parks of the Praia do Forte Eco Resort, will learn about the Tamar Project for the preservation of sea turtles and will tour the historical city of Salvador. There, he will also visit a school to take part in an Internet chat linking the students from Bahia to James's peers at St Mary's College, in Hull.
In São Paulo, he will visit Maurício de Sousa Studios, that created Monica, the cartoon character beloved by Brazilian children that features so prominently in the Children's Zone of the Brazilian Embassy's website.
