Brazil sets up committee to deal with cases of discrimination

Brasília, 14 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - During the launch of the National Human Rights Program II (PNDH II) yesterday, president Fernando Henrique Cardoso signed a declaration accepting Article 14 of the International Convention for the Elimination of all forms of Racial Discrimination and announced the establishment of a committee to deal with cases of racial discrimination.

Cardoso recalled that the first International Center for Studies on Poverty will be located in Brazil, permitting "our experience in dealing with poverty to be shared with other countries." He also mentioned the Brazilian policy of providing poor people with free medicines which received worldwide attention. (AB)
