Brasília, 15 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - World Bank (Bird) vice president for Latin America and the Caribbean, David de Ferranti, called yesterday (14) Brazilian social policy "phenomenally strong," referring to data such as the reduction of infant mortality rates, down from 48 per 1,000 to 30, over a period of 10 years. Individuals below the poverty line also fell, from 20% of the population in 1990, to 14% in 2000. "We are really satisfied with Brazil's economic policies," said Ferranti. (AB)
