Brasília, 8 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Minister of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, Sérgio Amaral, says that fast track authorization by the US congress is a good sign for trade negotiations both at the Free Trade Area of the Americas and the World Trade Organization. "There are some clauses requiring [Bush] to consult congress regarding sensitive items, but nothing which makes an agreement impossible," said Amaral. But, he added there is no proof that the US is now willing to have serious discussions on really important items, such as trade barriers. "The question that has not been answered is whether or not the president [Bush] will be able to confront pressure from those who want protectionist measures," Amaral concluded. (AB)
