Final word on Trevi's extradition is up to STF

14/11/2002 - 12h20

Brasília, November 14, 2002 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The minister of Justice, Paulo de Tarso Ribeiro, denied requests for asylum made by Mexican singer Glória Trevi, her agent, Sérgio Andrade, and her secretary, Maria Raquenel. The minister's decision ratified the position that had already been taken by the National Refugee Committee (Conare).

Following this decision by the minister of Justice, the Supreme Court (STF) is free to decide on Glória Trevi's extradition. According to the court, the fact that Trevi had a child in Brazil does not constitute an obstacle to her extradition. (DAS)
