Rio,November 15, 2002(Agencia Brasil - ABr) – The reduction of social inequality and poverty, pillars of the government-elect of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, are compatible with goals set by the World Bank for loans, says Bernard Pasquier, director for Latin America and the Caribbean for the International Finance Corporation.

Pasquier said the IFC finances not only large corporations, but especially small and medium-sized ones, which supply and purchase from the big corporations. Its priority is microcredit operations for low-income population segments. That type of loan can occur in partnership with the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) or the private sector. (AB)
