Brasilia, November 15, 2002 (Agencia Brasil ABr) - The coordinator of the goverment-elect's transition team, Antonio Palocci, says "there is no silver bullet" to control the inflation process, adding that traditional measures are called for in order to ensure more confidence in the country.
Palocci said that means macroeconomic balance to bring the dollar down. He said the inflation spike underway now is not caused by increased demand, but due to the rise of the dollar during the election campaign.
He concluded by saying that with the fall of the dollar and other measures being put in place, inflation pressure would slacken. He reiterated that the Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva administration is committed to avoiding exotic measures, such as exchange rate control, to ensure stability. (AB)
